I tried to send this out yesterday but managed to do something really dumb and it didn't make it out.
Hi All,
1. Firstly some very good news which I should have passed on much earlier......
Simon Talbot kindly stepped forward and offered to take on the Vice President's position for 2009/2010. And, without pomp nor ceremony Simon's offer was subsequently accepted by the TUHA Committee, so CONGRATULATIONS and BIG THANKS to Simon for taking on this challenging, but hugely rewarding role (he's been there before so he knows how amazingly rewarding it is).
However, (yes, there is a "however"), Simon is currently overseas and away for another 3 weeks, recruiting players from PNG or some such.
But don't despair. Henry, the Wizard Maxwell, has stepped in to help out during Simon's absence, and, as I type, is putting together the roster for this next pennant (which begins next week, Wed 29th July). All Hail Henry !! We all thank you profusely from the bottoms of our mouldy hockey bags.
2. Thank you to all the Captains who attended the Captain's Meetings on Monday and Tuesday nights. So well behaved. Not a drop of blood was spilled. And there were some good discussions and suggestions to relay to the Committee.
The key outcomes with respect to the structure of Grades for Pennant 2 are as follows:
A Grade - no change in number or names of teams from last pennant. 8 teams.
B Grade - no change in number or names of teams from last pennant. 6 teams.
C Grade - One team has folded (Factory Seconds). All other teams as per last pennant. Therefore 7 C Grade teams. The 8th C Grade roster spot will be filled by a "D Grade Challenge Team" . That team will, as the name suggests, be made up of super-keen D Grade players. The player make-up may change significantly from week to week, but it's thought the core of the team will probably remain fairly 'stable'. D Challenge games will not count for points. We'll use the same rules that we've used before for State Womens side (Femme Fatales) playing in B Grade.
D Grade - 5 teams. Introduction of a new team "Water Rats". To fill a 6th spot, so we don't have byes, Ian Shannahan's U15s side will play in D Grade. So, in fact 6 Teams in total. If for any reason the U15s cannot play on any night the game will just be scratch game.
I hope this proposed plan meets with your universal approvals and holds no great shocks for you. If it does cause you some pains, please feel free to contact me to discuss, but have a cup of tea and good lie down first.
Stay tuned for the roster, and remember that on Wed 5th and Wed 12th of August we have an enforced break because of the Short Course Swimming Championships.
Cheers, Craig
