We were holding off on the announcement because of the possibility of receiving some late jossling for the few positions that remain unfilled. The new 2009/2010 Committee, as it stands at present, is as follows: President Craig Proctor Vice President No one as yet Secretary Glenn Wickham Treasurer Colin Hepher Development Officer Jeremy Crawford Junior Development Ian Shanahan Officer Newsletter Editor Bruce Ransley Chief Referee Marty Jack Media Officer Garry Davidson Social Director Jason Whelan Equipment Officer Pieter van der Woude Web/Video Officer No one as yet General Committee 1 Steve Cleary General Committee 2 Hannah Robert-Tissot On behalf of all in TUHA........Many thanks to those 'old' members from the 2008/2009 Committee who put their hands up again and were re-elected (Colin, Jeremy, Ian S, Marty, Garry, Jason, Pieter), and BIG BIG thanks to the 'new' members Glenn, Bruce, Steve, and Hannah (although some have been on the TUHA Committee in earlier times, hence 'recycled' ! ). AND BIG BIG THANKS also to outgoing Committee Members - Nathan Whelan (ex-President), Andrea Dickinson (ex-Secretary), Andrew Doyle (ex-Vice President), Ian Humble (ex-Web/Video Officer ), and Nick Johnston (ex-General Committee Member). So, as good as all that sounds, we are still short one Vice President and one Web/Video Officer (although Ian H has kindly offered to continue on for a bit while we seek a successor). We urge you all consider whether you might fit the bill for one of these vacant positions. You may have heard that Vice President's job is a bad one because it involves a lot of work. And to some extent that WAS true (Just ask Doyley ! No, on second thoughts, don't do that). I say "WAS", rather than "IS" because the Committee have already taken steps to reduce the workload for the Vice President. For a start, we are looking into putting someone on to do all the entry of weekly game results into computer. We are also looking into changing the current system of updates for the TUHA website that will make distribution of ladder and results much easier and a less onerous task for the Vice President. And we'll be looking at more job sharing within the Committee for some of the other things the VP has traditionally has done (e.g. orgainising the trophies, medals etc. for end of pennant Presentations). However, that's not to say the VP will have nothing left to do. There will still be overall SUPERVISION/Management of the roster, the collation and processing of results, Best and Fairest votes......and also standing in for President when he is away. But it won't be as big a job as it used to be. It is a very important position for the Association and we very much need to fill this position as soon as possible. As for the Web/Video Officer, this position is ideally suited to someone with big passion for things IT and technical, and we know there are many of you out there. It too involves some busy periods, but largely comes in bursts of activity - e.g. around end-of-pennant Finals time, Nationals and other major Championships that we might be lucky enough to host in Hobart. The web management is there all the time but likely to become easier as we are investigating creating a web-site that all on the Committee can access and update, thereby relieving the Web/Video Officer of the hassle of doing all the adding and and updating of the site as a sole web-site administrator. Ian has kindly offered to assist during the 'handover' period, so you will have plenty of opportunity to learn the ropes. Give it some thought and let me know if you are willing to take on one of these positions. It'll be buckets of fun. I promise. Cheers, Craig (President) Craig H. We haven?t much time to get the new pennant roster and team lists into place, so we?d greatly appreciate that information be submitted as soon as possible. TEAM CAPTAINS Could all Team Captains please send me an email confirming whether or not your team is continuing onto Pennant 2 with the same player make-up as for Pennant 1. Attached is a spreadsheet with team lists. It is possible there may be some errors, with players missing from your lists who you think should be there. Please tell me about these errors if you see any for your team. Note: ? = Recruit player. If you have in mind a major team change e.g. your team is ?dissolving?, or you want to form a new team, please let me know asap as we?ll need to discuss such things amongst the Committee during the early part of this week. We cannot guarantee that all suggestions for new teams will be able to be accommodated, but we can guarantee that we will closely consider anything you put forward. A , B and C GRADE DRAFTS Players who wish to nominate for the the A, B, or Grade drafts should do so as soon as possible (ideally by end of Tuesday 14th) by sending me an email (craig.proctor at csiro.au), or by phone [62342059 (H), 62325376 (W), mob - 0439489991]. Please include mention of whether you are a forward, a back, or can play as both. You should also inform the Captain of the team you are currently listed with, to say that you are nominating for the draft. RECRUITS As a reminder to Recruit players, here is an extract from the TUHA ByLaws: 6.4 Assessment: 6.4.1 At the end of the pennant each recruit is assessed by the Grading Committee and will either be determined to be suitable for that grade or not suitable. 6.4.2 If suitable, the recruit is deemed to be of a standard to play in the recruiting team?s grade permanently. The recruit must then either join the recruiting team or place themselves in the draft for that grade. 6.4.3 If not yet suitable, the recruit returns to their original lower grade team but can apply as a recruit again to the original recruiting team or any other team in a higher grade. The recruit may choose to enter the draft for the higher grade or if nominate for the draft in their original teams grade if they do not wish to rejoin their original team. So, this is the process that has to occur during this week. If you were a Recruit player in a team in a higher grade during Pennant 1, and you wish to become a fully-fledged player in that higher grade, you have to decide whether you want to stay as member of the team you were a recruit of or whether you wish put your name forward into the Draft for that higher grade. If you want to be a Recruit player in a higher grade team during this new pennant, in addition to playing with the team you are registered in, then please send me your name and your preferred playing position (i.e. forward or back). If you have already identified a team you would like to be a Recruit in and have discussed it with that team's Captain and he/she and the team are keen to have you as a Recruit, then make sure the Captain includes you on the team list, marked with an "R". Hi All, 1. Firstly some very good news which I should have passed on much earlier...... Simon Talbot kindly stepped forward and offered to take on the Vice President's position for 2009/2010. And, without pomp nor ceremony Simon's offer was subsequently accepted by the TUHA Committee, so CONGRATULATIONS and BIG THANKS to Simon for taking on this challenging, but hugely rewarding role (he's been there before so he knows how amazingly rewarding it is). However, (yes, there is a "however"), Simon is currently overseas and away for another 3 weeks, recruiting players from PNG or some such. But don't despair. Henry, the Wizard Maxwell, has stepped in to help out during Simon's absence, and, as I type, is putting together the roster for this next pennant (which begins next week, Wed 29th July). All Hail Henry !! We all thank you profusely from the bottoms of our mouldy hockey bags. 2. Thank you to all the Captains who attended the Captain's Meetings on Monday and Tuesday nights. So well behaved. Not a drop of blood was spilled. And there were some good discussions and suggestions to relay to the Committee. The key outcomes with respect to the structure of Grades for Pennant 2 are as follows: A Grade - no change in number or names of teams from last pennant. 8 teams. B Grade - no change in number or names of teams from last pennant. 6 teams. C Grade - One team has folded (Factory Seconds). All other teams as per last pennant. Therefore 7 C Grade teams. The 8th C Grade roster spot will be filled by a "D Grade Challenge Team" . That team will, as the name suggests, be made up of super-keen D Grade players. The player make-up may change significantly from week to week, but it's thought the core of the team will probably remain fairly 'stable'. D Challenge games will not count for points. We'll use the same rules that we've used before for State Womens side (Femme Fatales) playing in B Grade. D Grade - 5 teams. Introduction of a new team "Water Rats". To fill a 6th spot, so we don't have byes, Ian Shannahan's U15s side will play in D Grade. So, in fact 6 Teams in total. If for any reason the U15s cannot play on any night the game will just be scratch game. I hope this proposed plan meets with your universal approvals and holds no great shocks for you. If it does cause you some pains, please feel free to contact me to discuss, but have a cup of tea and good lie down first. Stay tuned for the roster, and remember that on Wed 5th and Wed 12th of August we have an enforced break because of the Short Course Swimming Championships. Many thanks to Henry Maxwell for putting this together. This first version needs checking so we ask that all Captains please go through the entries for your teams (both for games and reffings) and make sure it all looks OK, with no clashes. If you find any clashes please get back to me asap. There will be Guild Refs for games this pennant, but we'll have to wait until Chief Ref Marty Jack gets back to organise that. So, there will not be Guild Refs for this wekk's games. IF YOU CHANGE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS, it is very important that you inform me or someone else on the Committee of your new address. If you don't you will soon drop off the UWH Announce mail-list. Captains, I would be grateful if you could pass that on to your team members, some of whom may have already dropped off the list. In C Grade there appears a team with name "Fresh Meat". This was Henry's suggestion (and a very imaginative one at that !) for the D Grade Challenge Team that will be playing in C Grade. Challenge Team players, if that name is too 'confronting' for you and you prefer another title, just let us know. Also, I forgot to mention that the C grade team rostered to play the Challenge Team (currently listed as "Fresh Meat") gets 4 points just like a win as long as they turn up to play, with a minimum of four of the registered team in the water. Hopefully this will ensure the Challenge Team gets a good game each week. Thanks to Andrew Winch for picking me up on that point. The Coaching positions are: Mens Team Coach Womens Team Coach Juniors Team Coach Mens Masters Team Coach Womens Masters Team Coach (on the assumption there will be entries of Womens Masters Teams for these Nationals) Nick Martyn has already put his hand up for Mens Team Coach, and Chris Cleaver likewise for Mens Masters Coach. However, that doesn't mean others cannot express interest at this stage. If we get more than one nomination for any position it will go to the TUHA Committee for a final decision(s). There is also the possibility of Assistant Coaching positions. We also seek expressions of interest from anyone willing to take on the job as Team Manager. Given the Nationals are going to be held here and that our Teams will not be travelling, this job should be much less demanding than is usually the case for Nationals. It will require making sure our Teams are properly registered, organising team uniforms, and other things directly related to the Teams themselves. This is totally separate to the position of Nationals Convenor, who is Nat Wickham. The job of Team Manager is one that could be taken on by a keen parent or shared by a couple of parents of players competing in the Championships. A great way to be involved in Tassie's Nationals campaign !! If you do wish to nominate for any of the abovementioned positions or wish to put your parent's name forward for Team Manager (after discussing it with him/her/them first !), please let me know asap. We have a Committee Meeting on Tues 4th Aug and it would be good to finalise these positions at that meeting. Thanks, Craig -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Captains, please look over your Team's list as it appears here and tell me if you see anything that doesn't match your expectations. In fact, if any player sees his/her name where he/she wasn't expecting it, please let me know asap. Craig PS. I am still waiting on the final list of names for D Grade Water Worries and Water Rats, but Rhys assures me they'll be arriving soon. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Teams in the first games are reminded that you need to get the walls in asap so your games can get underway on time. There have been some comments about imbalances in the roster with some teams wearing significantly more late games than others. As I'm sure you will appreciate, making up the roster is no easy task. But we are looking into addressing those imbalances and a new roster for the remainder of the pennant will appear sometime soon. Remember, no games on Wed 5th and 12th of Aug because of the Short Course Swimming Championships. Craig -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
